Ballot Proposals Could Be Postponed Due To Coronavirus Concerns

melahn

Concerns over the coronavirus are prompting some local governments to postpone ballot proposals they had scheduled for the upcoming May 5th election.

Michigan’s Secretary of State recently declared this May’s elections will be done entirely by mail to try to minimize people’s exposure to the disease.

Washtenaw County’s Director of Elections Ed Golembiewskisays there were only a few items being put to voters this year.

Scio Township and Dexter City both had a proposal on the ballot.  Scio Township has since canceled that plan and has withdrawn the proposal.  Their proposal will appear on the August Ballot.  Dexter City is considering doing the same thing,” Golembiewski says.

Golembiewski says South Lyon Community Schools is considering a proposalthat would appear on ballots in Northfield and Salem Townships but has not yet decided if it will delay.
