It's not easy to describe exactly what FestiFools and FOOLmoon, which take place each spring in Ann Arbor, are all about.  89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry talks with artist and organizer Mark Tucker and University of Michigan artist-in-residence Lavinia Hanachiuc about the annual public arts event coming up in early April.

This week, "Art and Soul" is about the visual arts in our community.  89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry is joined by Omari Rush, executive director of CultureSource and the chair of the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, and Katie Van Dusen from the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation.  They talk about a just-released neighborhood arts program focusing on bringing new art to Washtenaw County neighborhoods and giving opportunities to local artists to share their work.

Perhaps you’re familiar with a wine sommelier.  At most of your finer eateries, you’ll find one who can assist in selecting the best wine pairing for your meal.  These are highly trained people who have become experts in all things wine.  But, we’re betting many of you have never heard of a tea sommelier?  While rare in the United States, they do exist, and, as a matter of fact, one such person is running a successful business in Ann Arbor’s Kerrytown District.  89.1 WEMU’s Jorge Avellan introduces you to a certified tea sommelier, who has been publicly drafting tasty brews, while “Hidden in Plain Sight!” 


Winter Art Tour

On this week’s "Art & Soul," 89.1 WEMU’s Lisa Barry talks to Omari Rush, the executive director of CultureSource, and Cara Rosaen, the lead organizer of the Winter Art Tour, which is happening the weekend of December 8-10 in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.

It's been a long journey for the 16 Hands art gallery in Ann Arbor's Kerrytown District.  It wasn't always located there.  It has gone through temporary closures and relocate twice.  Owner Jill Damon has put much of her life into creating a place that matters to her, to her art and to the community.  WEMU's David Fair and president and CEO of the Arts Alliance, Deb Polich, bring you the story in a conversation with Jill Damon on this week's edition of "creative:impact."

She joined Jessica Webster and me to talk about what lead her to create the restaurant and how it will involve her culture and family and travels around the world in offering the freshest ingredients and unique Korean dining.

The Allen Creek Greenway is a three-mile walking and biking trail proposed to run north-south, near the railroad, through downtown Ann Arbor. The city has taken a $200,000 first step, by funding the master plan process.
