Several dozen people were on hand in Superior Township Thursday morning to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Garrett’s Space residence and studio.
Sitting on a 76-acre property surrounded by woods and natural beauty, the location off Dixboro Road will be home to a campus, catering to the mental health needs of young people.
Garrett’s Space hopes to serve up to 20 guests for 30-day stays in the residence with another 10 in the day programming.
Co-founder Julie Halpert says what they’re doing is just common sense in helping struggling young people.
“We absolutely believe that this is going to make a difference. We’ve seen it with our wellness programming, which is a smaller scale, which we will be ramping up. So, yeah, we really think that is going to be a significant asset to this community.”
Julie and Scott Halpert founded Garrett’s Space in 2018, one year after they lost their then-23-year-old son to suicide. They hope to open the residence in the summer of 2027.
