Ann Arbor is gearing up once again for this year’s Commuter Challenge in May where locals are encouraged to take alternative transportation.
TheRide, in partnership with the City of Ann Arbor, is trying to motivate residents to choose greener, more sustainable modes of transport like walking or biking.
Liliane Webb is the director of TheRide’s getDowntown Program. She says May’s Commuter Challenge offers a way for people to navigate downtown’s construction areas and streets closed for events more efficiently, enjoying the nicer weather while reducing traffic in the downtown area.
“It helps get people out of their cars, especially after a long winter when things were cold, bikes may have been put up, and walking to the bus stop may not have seemed as appealing.”
Webb says getDowntown is collaborating with various local businesses to offer rewards to individuals and workplaces who dedicate their time and effort to making the city a bit greener this May.
