Members of the University of Michigan’s Lecturers’ Employee Organization’s Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums bargaining unit (LEO-GLAM) have overwhelmingly approved a strike pledge.
The union held a “read-in” Tuesday on the front steps of the Hatcher Graduate Library on the U-M campus to draw attention to their cause. The union has been negotiating with the university since January but has yet to work out a tentative agreement.
LEO-GLAM Chair Meredith Kahn says the last thing left of the table is salary.
“We are looking for some addition to our base salary that would keep the jobs here at Michigan, so that librarians, archivists and curators are competitive and keep pace with increased costs of living and inflation and all that.”
While a strike pledge was passed, Kahn says she’s optimistic they will be able to reach an agreement before the need for a strike vote.
