Participants in Friends In Deed "Over the Edge 2026" event will rappel down the front of Eastern Michigan’s Hill Hall Friday and Saturday in support of local families. EMU's President Brendan Kelly will kick off Saturday's rappels at 9 a.m. WEMU's Caroline MacGregor reports.

Ann Arbor youth are very lucky to have not one, but two, fantastic educational venues. The Leslie Science and Nature Center gives kids a great outdoor experience, while the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum stimulates their minds with indoor activities. Charlie Reischl is the Director of Advancement at both institutions, and he joined Decky Alexander to talk about their latest work, including the "Access for All" initiative and the upcoming "Flutter" fundraiser.

It's a special fundraising edition of "1st Friday Focus on the Environment." For a final time, WEMU's David Fair co-hosts this segment. He's joined by his co-host of more than 25 years, Lisa Wozniak from the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. And they're also joined by the original co-host and co-founder of 1st Fridays, Lana Pollack, the former state Senator from Ann Arbor, President of the Michigan Environmental Council and U.S Chair of the International Joint Commission.

State demographers warn that Michigan's aging population and stagnant labor market could have serious consequences if not addressed. One-third of Michigan's population is over 55, putting pressure on elder care and healthcare services. In Washtenaw County, there are a number of organizations working independently and collaboratively to serve the growing senior population. Among them is Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels. WEMU's David Fair talked with Director Courtney Vanderlaan about what her organization is doing on its own and as part of the Big Hearts for Seniors collaborative.

The Ann Arbor Art Fair isn’t the only major event taking place in Washtenaw County. The annual "Thunder Over Michigan" Air Show is being held this weekend at Willow Run Airport. WEMU’s Kevin Meerschaert reports.

Right now, the waiting list for a space at the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County’s women’s shelter goes about 50-deep. The wait time for those women averages about seven months. That’s why the Shelter Association is undertaking a women’s shelter expansion initiative. WEMU's David Fair spoke with the association’s development director, Sarah Paspal-Jasinski, about the effort to expand capacity by 50%.
