The City of Ypsilanti is looking for high school-age residents to join some of the city’s commissions as youth members.

With Governor Gretchen Whitmer's announcement that there will be no more in-school class sessions and most scheduled events won't be taking place, one Ann Arbor high school senior, Loey Jones-Perpich, says she didn't get to celebrate the last day of school but didn't get to be sad about it either.  She talks to WEMU's Lisa Barry about missing out on this rite of passage due to the current coronavirus pandemic.

Get a personalized look at the work of the Student Advocacy Center of Michigan.  It’s been around since 1975 and now has offices in Ypsilanti, Jackson, and Detroit, and there can be no question it is a community resource that is changing lives.  Anell Eccleston is programs manager for the Student Advocacy Center and Jakobie Pillar is one of his mentees who just graduated from ACCE High School in Ypsilanti.  Their story comes to you through WEMU’s partnership with the United Way of Washtenaw County in this week’s edition of "Washtenaw United."

Back in 2018, the "In Our Neighborhood" grants program awarded funding to several projects in and around Washtenaw County.   One of which was the "Ypsi Fidelity" or "Y-Fi" initiative, created by Nick and Yen Azzaro.  The goal of this particular program was to bring together high school students through the performing arts and other social means.  The Azzaros talk more about their "Y-Fi" project in detail with WEMU's Patrick Campion and Concentrate Media's Sarah Rigg in this week's "On the Ground-Ypsi."

High school students in the new Ypsilanti Community School District will attend Ypsilanti High School next year.  Middle school students will attend classes at what is now Willow Run High School and the adjoining Willow Run Intermediate Learning Center.  Hear more from WEMU's Bob Eccles.
