The union representing Lecturers at the University of Michigan have submitted a petition to the university supporting it's bargaining platform ahead of contract expiration in May.  WEMU's Heather Irvine has more.

Eastern Michigan University's Board of Regents approved a contract extension Tuesday afternoon with The American Association of University Professors, also known as the EMU AAUP.  89.1 WEMU's Jorge Avellan has the story.

The University of Michigan Lecturers' Employee Organization voted to approve a new contract agreement.  The new agreement was reached in late June following eight months of negotiations.

Bargaining will resume Monday on a new contract for some 6,000 nurses working at the University of Michigan hospital.  A special rally and informational picket is planned for Saturday to show support for the nurses' union.

The contract covering registered nurses working at the University of Michigan health system has expired, but they remain on the job.  Contract talks are scheduled to resume in one week.

Part-Time EMU Lecturers Host May Day Rally On Campus

Rallies were held across the country today as part of May Day to show support for different groups and causes.  One took place at Eastern Michigan University as contract negotiations between part-time lecturers and the university continue. 
 

Before Michigan's right-to-work law takes effect later this month, the Washtenaw County  Board  of Commissioners has approved new long-term contracts with nearly all of the unions representing county workers.  Similar policy for non-union employees has been set as well.  Hear more from WEMU's Andrew Cluley.
