There's growing concern about a contagious virus that has claimed at least 17 lives and sickened hundreds of others mostly in China.

WEMU's Lisa Barry talks to Washtenaw County Health Department communications manager Susan Cerniglia, who says they are closely watching what happens now that 20 million people have been quarantined in China, where most of the cases have occurred so far.

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell says she looks forward to going into the New Year and next decade with "civility and hope."  Dingell said she didn't want to politicize President Donald Trump's recent comments about her following her pro-impeachment vote and her late husband John Dingell.  The congresswoman talked with WEMU's Lisa Barry about the past year both politically and personally.    

The entirety of the situation makes her sad.  That is the sentiment Congresswoman Debbie Dingell is expressing as a presidential impeachment inquiry gets underway.  The 12th District Democrat from Dearborn called in to 89.1 WEMU this morning to discuss why she, and the rest of the  Michigan delegation in the U.S. House, now support a full inquiry.

10 of the 20 Democratic presidential hopefuls met in Detroit last night for the first round of debates.  They discussed topics, such as health care, immigration, water quality and race.  Dearborn Democrat Debbie Dingell joined WEMU's David Fair to weigh in on what we've seen so far, what we should hear in round two of the Detroit debates tonight, and how the party has to move forward for the 2020 elections.

12th Congressional District Representative Debbie Dingell is co-sponsor of the Medicare For All Act of 2019.  The bill has been introduced in Congress and is now getting hearings.  On Saturday, July 13th, the Dearborn Democrat will serve on a panel of lawmakers at a Town Hall on "Medicare for All" in Ypsilanti.  Dingell shared her perspective in a conversation with 89.1 WEMU's David Fair.

Many emotions are shared in this, the more personal part of the interview.  Congresswoman Dingell begins by talking about her recent remarks about gun ownership before fellow members of Congress.  Then, she shares more about her long relationship with John Dingell, his final days, and the impact he’s had on the country.

PFAS contamination of Michigan waters is growing.  It has forced a “Do Not Eat Fish” advisory for the Huron River and has been discovered in the Ann Arbor Municipal Drinking water supply.  More new contamination sites are being discovered throughout Michigan and the rest of the country.  WEMU has been exploring what is being done at the local and state levels over the past few weeks.  In this month’s “1st Friday Focus on the Environment,” David Fair and Lisa Wozniak of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters explore what is being done at the federal level with Congresswoman Debbie Dingell.

John James has won the right to try and unseat Incumbent Senator Debbie Stabenow in November. The businessman and military veteran defeated Sandy Pensler in the Republican Primary for U.S. Senate.   Stabenow was unopposed in the Democratic primary.
